I have finished many races in the past 5 years. Some disappointing ones and many wonderful ones. Ones that have exceeded my expectations and some that were just awful so I figured I'd put together my top 5 of both marathons and triathlons.
In terms of my favorite marathons, here are my top 5 favorites so far and ones I highly recommend you sign up for:
NYC Half Marathon Running through NYC and the organization was the reason this race took the top spot. Central park, Times Square, West Side, Wall Street, the best course by far.
Smuttynose Half Marathon This race was beautiful, right along the ocean (but seriously it was as the ocean spray was falling on us), and they served lobster rolls and beer when you finished. Yes, please! Bonus, you get a beer glass at the expo!
Publix Georgia Half MarathonAtlanta was shown off so well during this race (the downtown area as it started in Centennial Park and headed out of town into pretty parks) the aid stations were stocked with fluids, snacks, and treats and I actually enjoyed the rolling course.
Miami Half Marathon BEAUTIFUL. I love running races in my college town and this one had us all over the city! Brickell, South Beach, Venetian Causeway, AA arena, downtown, you really couldn't beat it, plus it's pancake flat!
Chicago Marathon The city came out for this race and made it such an entertaining experience. Flat, beautiful views of Chicago throughout but I could have done without the uphill at the finish.
My favorite triathlons have been:
Ironman Louisville This race exceeded my expectations and was an amazing experience. Run incredibly well, full of volunteers until the late hours, awesome finish, Ironman has a reputation for being the best and it showed.
Challenge Family Atlantic City Loved the inlet swim even though it was challenging with the conditions, beautiful bike course that was mainly flat, and a very cool run course on the boardwalk.
NYC Triathlon This race had incredible sights including a strong current swim in the Hudson, bike along the Henry Hudson Parkway (GW bridge views) and what else beats running through Central Park? The finish was wonderful!
Nautica South Beach Triathlon South Beach was a gorgeous place to race and nothing beats swimming in Miami. The bike had some hills I mean bridges, but a flat nice run along the boardwalk/walkway.
Rock Hall Triathlon This is my favorite home state race. Easy swim, flat bike and run through the marina town. I love this race and you will too! Cute and quaint!
