Thanks to Ask Sebby, I have been able to get Silver Medallion Status on Delta.
So how did this happen? Last year I qualified for Status on United by taking a minimum of 4 flights and spending the necessary funds to reach Silver status. So this year as a result I have been able to enjoy the perks of Silver status on United on my trip out to Denver this spring. By following some travel channels on instagram and youtube, I came across a promo that Delta is currently holding where they will status match you, if you show proof, and give you 3 months to hit the qualifying numbers to have status for the rest of the year.
So I visited the website, followed the instructions which were relatively easy, submitted my information and was approved by the next day.
What comes next? Well I get to enjoy all the benefits that come with Silver Medallion Status. I get free checked bags, complimentary upgrades for me (which I have already been submitted for on an upcoming delta flight) and a guest, which includes Delta One Domestically, and I will earn more miles per dollar spent.
I also don't have to hit the high number of 25,000 MQM's and the $3000 MQDs that Delta typically requires for general members in order to reach Silver Status.
MQM- Miles earned based on distance flown and your fare class
MQD- Dollars spent on retail tickets minus taxes
Since I have an upcoming trip on Delta, I knew I would hit the MQDs based on how much my original ticket cost, but I wasn't sure about the MQM's. So I found a calculator. Now these are "unofficial" but if the math is correct, I will hit the number I need to qualify for Delta Silver Status for the rest of the year.
I should also note that if you are flying on a partner airline in the Skyteam family (Virgin, KLM, AirFrance) you will also gain MQMs towards the challenge.
So what have you got to lose? Well you need to sign up by June 30, 2022 and if you complete the requirements, your Medallion Status will be extended through January 31, 2023. But remember, you only have Complimentary Status for 3 months.
Other airlines do status match and if you want to learn more about it, check out The Points Guy article where you can learn more about it and what other airlines are conducting at this time.
